Haleigh, I've always found you to be inspiring because of the unique journey you've taken. I'm a high school senior, and the college admissions process is looming. All these options are becoming overwhelming, and it's hard not to submit to the pressure that surrounds me, or the typical expectations and measures of success. More than anything, I want to return to my homeland, Germany, and study in Munich. What advice do you have? How did you overcome the pressure to pursue the status quo?

Hi there!

Of all the things I have hated in life, the college admission process is at the top of my list! I was a horrible high school student, I had no idea what I wanted to do and how to figure it out. I didn’t get accepted to the two schools I applied to and I felt hopeless and like everyone thought I was going to be a dead beat. I ended up at community college for two years and it was a great experience! While I was there I got the opportunity to study abroad in Greece and Turkey which is what gave me the interest and confidence to move to France on my own afterward.

I think going to a new country for school or work is a great idea, and I hear amazing things about Munich! The world is so much smaller than it used to be, and being cosmopolitan and multinational will bring you many professional opportunities. Education is important, but having incredible experiences (even if sometimes they are bad or hard) will teach us more more than sitting in a class ever will. Let college be your ticket to new places, new experience, and new opportunities, but don’t let a major or a school itself define you too much, you are so much more than that! Just do what you think is best now, and whatever happens later you can always change your mind and do something else. Trust me the world will bring you the most unexpected opportunities, just open to them and ready when they present themselves!

Hi Haleigh! I just wanted to let you know how much I truly adore Making Magique! I'm 17 and aspire to traveling and doing creative work overseas like you after I finish school - you are an inspiration! At the moment I'm trying to gather some ideas for what to do after I finish school from people that I look up to. It would be so wonderful if I could have any kind of advice or tips from you (if you have the time) on being happy and having an amazing life/job haha! Thank you so much! Love, Mietta

Hi Mietta!

Thanks for your message and I am flattered that you look up to me. My best advice for you to achieve the things you want is to be imaginative! There are so many paths we can take through life through which we will find success and happiness, we just need to stay starry eyed and keep dreaming up all the possibilities! If you can imagine what you really want, then go out and chase after it. The best way to do so is stay positive and productive. Wether you are doing something artistic or academic or even social just keep busy meeting people that will give you opportunities and showing the world what you’ve got. Lastly, never ever be afraid to put yourself out there. You are a bright star and you whatever it is you want to do, there will be people out there in the world that will thinks it’s great. You just need to let yourself be discovered.

I hope that was helpful, but either way just the fact that you are thinking about all this now and reaching out to people for ideas shows that you will be very happy and successful in life.

XOXO,
